Subject: :)Your site is genius and I’d like to thank you for confirming what I already knew… I lived in Philly for one year and eight months and that was enough. I was led there by folks who said- it’s awesome, it’s cheap and you’ll get a lot of space. Well, that doesn’t make up for so many other dour points that make up the “city of brotherly love”. I lived in some other crappy cities and Philadelphia takes the title of most vile.
There are no redeeming aspects that I can think of; maybe if you are a history buff: the liberty bell, can’t hate on it. But there is so much misery and blight- coupled with a weird chip on everyones’ shoulder… damn. I tried to like it, but I just couldn’t. Public transport sucks. The grass in the city parks suck. Trash. Ugly people. Everything.
I made out unscathed, and haven’t been back since. Thank the heavens that there is a world outside of Philadelphia. I urge folks to explore it and desert this shit city once and for all. Then, it will be almost romantic, a fading memory, a ghost town- a museum. Where one can visit and leave immediately.

I remember many the secretaries were Irish and if you didn’t like to go to bars and get drunk they looked at you like you were weird.
Wow smith, you sound about as smart as those drunk irish bitches!
chip on everyones’ shoulder….maybe they knew how much you hated them. How ugly you thought they were. Roaming around a city full of people you find disgusting probably gives off a pretty bad vibe.Of course, none of this is YOUR doing, no, you’re great- a shining example of contempt for that which you refuse to take the time to understand. You find people you don’t “get” vile. I’m sure you are a great credit to wherever the heck it is you live now, and I am glad its not Philly.
Sean seems so defensive- a shining example of someone that has a major chip on his shoulder. You know sir, people have a right to their own opinion. If you love Philly (you’re probably from there and have never lived anywhere else, I take it) then how lovely for you. Carry on with your fervor and you’re absolutely right, I don’t have time nor the desire to understand the secrets that make Philly so amazing. Did you find this site by searching “I love Philly?” I feel sorry for you chap.
I lived in Philadelphia from 2003-2005 and I hated it! I agree that Philly sucks. The people are rude, the jobs are terrible, it’s elitist, the only thing that is agreeable is the mice and the food. I would say to the haters, lighten up! Thank God the Internet is “free,” although that is changing…P
I live here because I’m still stuck here ….but I plan to leave soon. I had a good childhood here but I never really liked it here. Last two full-time (provided a living wage) jobs I had here were both horrible. One was in the 1970′s at Delaware Valley Underwriting Agency in Wyncote. There I was bullied by the owner when I had been there only about a month. The other job was in 1990 and by a quirk of fate I’m sure was in the same building and for roughly the same amount of time. This place is still in business as far as I know — ATD American Company. There I was bullied and yelled at in the presence of my co-workers by my immediate supervisor, Steve Layton. To sum it up, I put in a prompt order, Steve told me to delay the order, I told him it would be late, Steve then did his yelling, customer complained to me because it was late, I told Steve “I told you so”, no one apologized to me. There was more but that was my last day. This past year I put up a nice sign at Ben Wilson Senior Center near my current home in Warminster offering to be a volunteer dance teacher. (I went to one class by the only current dance teacher, which left a lot to be desired. Another long story shortened — I was persuaded to substitute teach a class in “seated exercises” even though I have trouble sitting, due to a spine problem. They also disposed of my sign. At least I know it was removed from the bulletin board and I never heard another thing about it. The last job I had was supposed to be as a caregiver to help bathe a senior lady (not affiliated with the Wilson center). She was bad tempered, and overly demanding and not fit to handle her own affairs. These events are not my fault, as I did have ONE nice job at a donut shop in the 70′s, which I held for a year, after which I joined the military. Also I had a few other nice part time jobs in other areas of the state/country, mostly in child day care. I had to give up that field, due to contracting common recurrent infections. Also I hate the climate in this area of the country. I am interested in chatting with others who hate Philly, especially because of the people and climate.
