I just found your blog via Good Grief and I wanted to send greetings from another Philly native who has suffered through one disastrous season after another. I think the Phillies hold the record for being the losingest team in all of pro sports. Pretty sad. It's hard to be from Philly. And I am still annoyed at how winnable last year's Super Bowl was. They really could have won that game. And then we would have all been happy for the rest of our lives. We are not asking for dynasties or anything, we just want ONE reasonable win that we can rememeber. I was five when the Phillies won in 1980 so I hardly remember it. I need ONE win that I can remember and tell my kids about.

Anyway I just wanted to say hi. And as futile and ridiculous as it is to live here, I still love Philly. I even got my husband to give up California and come here - he's now been here 7 years.

I just wanted you all to know what an honor it is for us to know that we have angered you so much, and have stirred so much hatred in you that you feel compelled make a site about us. Little do you know it, but in that we have defeated you.

No, I take that back. I don't consider it a victory, I honsetly pity you and your viewers and actually consider it a downfall for my fellow human beings. If the Eagles sucked so bad they wouldnt have been in 4 straight NFC title games, the SB last year, and had more wins than any team since 2000. Now I agree they should have at least one SB win but that doesnt mean they suck. They were a top 4 team in the league every year. Get over yourself and get a life. The Sixers were in the finals a few years ago and have struggled since, I agree, but make the playoffs every year. They don't suck, they're just not top-tier. There's a difference. It's a matter of displaced anger. Our egos wont allow us to admit that our city has some serious problems with sports, so we take it out on the hardcore fans of other teams. The people of my city have hope and a switchblade, and they're willing to use either in the name of the Eagles, the Phillies, etc. That, my friend, is respectable.

I read about your site and I love it! There is so much about Philly that truly sucks, but I do think the Eagles don't suck that much. Not being a Philadelphian (phew), I guess I never got into the glass-half-empty, self-loathing thing.

I am a transplanted Bostonian (okay, transplanted sounds so sterile. Let's go with dragged here kicking and screaming by my Bucks County native spouse, a die-hard Eagles fan)and I love the Patriots, but I do like the Eagles. For all their "issues" they are a pretty good team.

I also love how the Philly natives blast you in their usual colorful way. Goes to prove the point, I guess. I also lived in DC awhile. Boy, do they hate Philly in DC.

But, as much as I bash Philly (and I am forever surprised that no one has punched me out for it), Philly doesn't suck nearly as much as NEW JERSEY. Philly-types should thank their lucky stars they aren't Jersey Boys and Girls. I swear, New Jersey's leading export is assholes. When I shake hands with a Jerseyan, I have to look for a popsicle stick. And look at their principal cities - Camden, Newark and Trenton. All shitholes. Now I understand why New Yorkers put the state down. I will take PA any day over Jersey.

I am a Philly fan through and through and I think your site is OK. I was 3 years old when the Sixers won the last championship in this city and I don’t remember that so I have been privileged to see zero championships since then. A lot of heartbreak through the years. Im more of a Flyers fan than any other team and I remember crying after game 7 of the 87 Cup finals, Hextall still doesn’t know how to keep that 5-hole closed. That’s what true fans do when their teams lose, im sure I wasn’t the only one on that night. It's clear all the Philly haters out there, namely Cowboy and Redskin fans, just don't get this site. Note: making the playoffs one year here or there in arena sports and making a run does not absolve sucking. Nationals, not even worth mentioning because this doesn't count. You lost this team mind you. Why? Because you're not a sports town and you couldn't deal with the losing. Get some. Ask yourself this: Is my father a Nationals fan? Was my grandfather? If your answer is no, then I don't want to hear it.

2) Dallas Fans: First of all. If you're not from Dallas (or you're family is not originally from Dallas), and you are a Cowboys fan, then you are a total scum-bag bandwagon jumping fan. Nothing but the locality in which you grew up controls you're fanship, case closed. Otherwise, you are a complete fraud. See Bill Simmons' rules for fanship on ESPN.com, they speak home to me like the truth. If you are from Dallas, fine, good for you. The Cowboys have won championships. But, I suspect these are not the people we hear from. Also, where have all you cockroaches been since the Cowboys have won the Super Bowl? You ONLY crawl out when your team is winning, as usual. As for you're other teams, they're really not worth mentioning, whether or not they have won Championships, or have been good, or have sucked. They are all Mickey Mouse teams with no history (in Dallas that is), so no one cares.

See. Sports is about history, tradition, and overall passion for your teams, win or lose. Yes, Philly fans are a rough and tumble bunch, but we friggin' love ALL our teams at an almost uncontrollable level. That is why there is negativity. It is the same thing you'll see if you go to NY or Boston, or any other true sports town. People boo, get angry, and lash out at opposing fans because we care so much. To me, this is even more impressive given the terrible history of our teams. But, you know what. The teams that have won here are treated like friggin' royalty. Fanship (FOR ALL THE TEAMS!!!!!) in Philly is something that is passed generation to generation (much like in Boston and New York). That's why New York, or Boston fans, and Philly fans will get into it every once and a while, but it normally as heated as these exchanges with fraud fans. You know why? Deep down we have respect for each other because we've always been there, and we always will be there, good or bad. You can count on a guy from NY, Boston, and Philly as being a salt of the earth fan of all his local squads. Dallas? Washington? They aren't even on the sports map. Give me a break. Honestly, why would you hate us? We have always sucked...according to this site. Why even waste your time? Great site. I was born & raised outside of Philly for the first 23 years of my life so I consider myself a philadelphia native. However, I've lived in a few different places around the US for roughly the last 10 years and your site is right on...we suck and everyone hates us.

The one stat I'd love to see up there is the # of championship games we gotten to and lost. We've got to be the all-time biggest chokers. Working from memory, here's what I can count

Eagles 1980, 2005
Phillies 1983, 1993
Flyers 1976, 1980, 1985, 1987, 1997
Sixers 1978, 1980, 2001

I'd love to know how our championship game losing percentage ranks against other major cities. So not only do we suck, but on the rare occasion that we do have a good year we finish it off by choking.

I have thought about a stat like that, but it is hard to determine what is a choke and what is not. The 1987 Flyers had no business taking the Oilers to Game Seven of the Cup Final so did they choke? Same with the 2001 Sixers. They were a long shot to win the NBA Finals against the Lakers.

I will see what I can come up with...

As of 1/3/2006, Philly has the 2nd place team in the Atlantic Division for the NBA. 2nd place in the whole NHL. and soon to be the number 2 team in the NCAA after UConn's loss to Marquette. It's looking good for a championship this year. Also, Philadelphia is easily the best men's college basketball city in the nation. No where else can you find, 5 respectable programs(Temple, Villanova, Drexel, St. Joes, La Salle) every year (Not Dallas, New York, Washington, Los Angeles). So quite actually, Philly doesn't suck at all. On Outside the Lines a few weeks ago, it was also established that Philadelphia, hands down, has the best fans in all of sports. Take care d-bag.
